Choosing A Bathtub Shower: Clawfoot Tub Shower Or Alternative Tub Shower Enclosures

Ever since we have had bathtubs and showers there has been a desire to combine the two; sometimes because the bathroom is so small there is no space for a separate shower and tub, and other times for the sheer joy and convenience of a shower while in the tub as well as a separate shower enclosure.

The bathtub shower can come in several forms from simple and cheap to elaborate and expensive, with many options in between. At the cheap end you can buy a plastic or rubber shower attachment that you fix to the tub faucets whenever you need it. Some people like to shampoo their heir in the bath this way.

At the other extreme is something like a bathtub shower from Lasco Bathware; for  example the model 7236ST. This luxury combined tub and shower is a far cry from the shower hose attachment. This particular tub-shower has 4 adjusta-flow Whirlpool jets and can be supplied to drain left or right. From the bathroom safety point of view it has a slip resistant textured bottom plus built in safety acrylic grab bars; for comfort it has an ergonomic backrest thus avoiding the need to buy a separate backrest for your tub.

The Lasco 7236ST is a high tech bathtub shower compared to the rubber hose hand shower type. It comes with a .75 hp motor, 1 air control and a pneumatic on-off control. It also has an advanced safety suction system, and you have a good range of colors to choose from, thus increasing the chance of finding the perfect tub shower for your bathroom design.

An in-between bathtub shower is something like a Clawfoot Tub Shower which is permanently fixed to the tub, either  as a wall mounted or freestanding add-on. The Clawfoot style is very popular and often chosen to go with Clawfoot bathtub legs. In fact Clawfoot  Tub Shower Sets can be bought as freestanding, wall mounted or another option: deck/rim mounted. A wall mounted example is the Strom Plumbing Tub Filler and Clawfoot Tub Shower Enclosure which sells for about $630-$780 depending on the options you choose. The basics are a tub fill faucet with porcelain lever handles, a riser, an attractive shower head, plus shower ring and supports. Made from solid brass with a metal shower head, this Strom Clawfoot tub/shower has washerless quarter turn valves, but tub drains and supply lines are extra.
